I know I’m not the only one that has already tracked those rogue autumnal mornings, where the temperature dips, scholasticism is in the air and I invariably hear Tom Hank’s voice in my mind promising me a bouquet of freshly sharpened pencils.

Which conjured up the following idea as fast as the Owens sisters would have it and here we are…

The Details

The Intent

I am committing to writing for one hour, two mornings a week, through the end of the year, and I want you to join me.

Over the past two years of benefitting from the practice of morning pages, a deep love of devotional practices has taken root in me. I have become an avid defender of the art of discipline, and even more so, of the benefit of bringing discipline to my creative practices.

Additionally, I know I am not alone in both my desire for accountability and a need for some neurodivergent-friendly structure, which is why I’m shifting this from a personal commitment to a community movement.

This goes beyond body-doubling.

This is a challenge designed to re-commit you to the identity of an artist.

Of someone who creates.

And even more potent, of someone who creates time to create art.

The Stipulations

Price: $17- One dollar per week

Who can join: If you write, you’re in.

Meeting Guidelines: Arrive quiet with yourself muted. Camera on or off is up to you. I will have my camera on for posterity sake, but you are free to remain cloaked in the morning darkness. Seeing your names in the little black square will suffice.

Attendance: It is up to you how dedicated and frequent you are in your attendance. Allowing this to be a practice where you commit to you so that you can experience what it feels like to build trust and accountability with yourself.

My expectations are that you honor your commitment. Not even just to me, but to yourself.

Disclaimer: This is early morning. I will be there in all my bed-head glory, blurry-eyed in my glasses and with a piping hot cup of coffee. This is not a group that I will be facilitating in any verbal way, I am holding the space energetically by being present on camera for you to saddle up next to in the wee hours of the blissful dawn. You need not be on camera yourself, but I welcome your faces as they greet the day.

The Incentive

Everyone who completes 10,000 words written within the framed duration of this container will receive a one hour 1:1 Creative Mapping Session with me.

In this session we can brainstorm ideas, midwife a story, confront a shadowed aspect, or bolster your identity-level authority in your artistry.

The Outcome

On December 31st, New Year’s Eve, you will look yourself in the mirror knowing that you are someone who is committed to their craft.

You are someone who fostered their grit and their accountability.

You are no longer some flimsy daisy awaiting inspiration, you are a craftsman who knows the sacred attendance of repetition, and what inspiration can find you there.

You are someone who has thousands of words written, waiting in their google docs, because you were willing to do the boring part.

You will know that the options of what happens now are endless, because you have proven to yourself that you can and do show up for the work.

You are someone who can undoubtedly call yourself a writer.

Because you are an artist.
